18 US states now have laws requiring citizens to verify their age to view pornography on the internet by volunteering personal information to an infrastructure designed to document their most intimate sexual preferences, inclinations and activity. It is essentially illegal to view pornography anonymously in these states. There are more on the way.

These laws are clearly unconstitutional but they often pass anyway.

Never before in all of human history has any civilization attempted to prevent people from being able to see other people naked without first joining a registry for approval.

We entering one of the most insanely puritanical eras known to man. No one seems worried about this.

It's not about puritanism, it's about normalizing the concept of the Internet not being free and requiring a license to navigate it. They're starting with porn sites because both feminist puritans and Christian puritans hate them, but they'll gradually expand the list of sites covered since they MIGHT host porn, and then once half the Internet requires a loicense to visit and people are used to it and everyone has a porn site license they'll just expand it to the rest. People will accept this because they'll have the license already and it won't immediately inconvenience them, and won't be worth fighting.

The end goal is government's approval being required to host a website, and government's approval being required to visit any of them. Get on the managerial state's bad side and you're effectively kicked off the Internet.

To be fair, the other anon you're talking to isn't totally illogical for that train of thought. The US government has an extensive history of implementing 'harmless' regulations and then expanding them until they are no longer recognizable as what they started off as, and a free and open internet does go against many of the federal government's interests.

I agree. I think this is just a ploy to normalize the internet ID, and the anti-porn crowd are just the useful idiots that will back these sort of policies up thinking its a blow against what they perceive to be degeneracy. Its very similar to how 9/11 made people more accepting of increasing government surveillance.

Wait that's genuinely good. I was a porn addict since my early teens and I've only made genuine progress in the last couple months and I'm nearing 30. Porn is dangerously addictive and exposure at a young age has been shown to warp kids minds, with one example being a rise in harmful fetishes found in minors. There's no registry required to see people naked anyway, just go outside and talk to women. Genuinely this is healthier for everybody. America is full of fat fricks so the more incentives to go outside for people the better.

porn was never made illegal in the us because it essentially didn't exist. pornography as a sexual aid is a largely new phenomenon enabled by the advancement of technology.
obscenity laws largely applied to works of art and whether or not they were considered blasphemous, not pornographic. you're essentially asking me to provide examples of the federal government preemptively making a specific category of media illegal before it could even have a chance to exist, which is stupid.

If we were talking about Europe you could name such works, the ability to produce them was there and they were in fact made. You are flatly wrong to suggest the technology didn't exist yet. Retract that claim.

You can also point to illegally distributed works that were around in the US. But such works were not legally produced in the US before the 60s.

The product was in fact being manufactured, it was not allowed to be sold or distributed legally, it was suppressed by law. It was banned. Stag films were made, but they were not legal. Legal porn started in the 60s.

You said porn essentially didn't exist before the 1960s. It did obviously exist, you are wrong. You said the technology to produce it had not been developed, but the technology did exist. You will now abandon these claims you made, or ignore them. Here is an example of a pornographic work that did exist pre 1960s.

            https://archive.org/details/a-free-ride

So why did you claim the technology and such works didn't exist? And of course porn does not even need video or photo tech to exist.

            Anonymous

you reason you continue to refuse to point to a law that has existed since the beginning of this nation and defines a set of criteria for qualification of media as pornography categorically is because you can't. there is a reason you can't find a law that defines any works of media as explicitly "pornographic" and not merely obscene, and that reason is that the very concept of pornography is relatively new.

            >oh but what about A Free Ride
that's a stag film, which was censored by the laws yes, but the film was enabled by the advancement of technology. the images depicted were censored by laws that were written far before that technology existed. america wasn't founded in 1912, hence the reason obscenity laws existed but there were no laws regarding pornography specifically

Thank God. All this "parent's responsibilityl bullshit is finally coming to an end. It's the govenrrnment's responsibility to ensure that its citizens are safe, and one of the most effective ways to do that is to raise those citizens yourself instead of relying on """parents""" with no strong morals to manufacture upstanding citizens, ultimately failing to do so.
If it were up to me, all children would be taken away from their parents immediately after birth and raised in government-funded boarding schools with extremely stringent rules and standards. Kid cities, if you will. The entire idea of parenting your own children is flawed.

The same proportion of states have red flag laws on the books so you can legally SWAT anyone you dislike "just in case" they're a "potential mass shooter". In fact, the proportion is higher once you throw in all the other reasons some states allow you to narc on your neighbors

    >LGBT grooming
    >having an abortion
    >facilitating an abortion

This is the best time in history to be a karen since you have the firepower of the modern state to settle your petty grievances. Its unironically what these states get for voting in conservatives.
Constitutionality only matters if judges are willing to enforce it, and if politicians care about trying to adhere to the document in the first place.
If there is a good chance for it to take years in litigation for any law to be overturned, you can just pass laws that are clearly unconstitutional, the worst that can happen is them being overturned a few years down the line.

you don't need to submit your ID to a government database for alcohol consumption though. also alcohol consumption and human sexuality are two very different things, it's understandable why you'd want to retain anonymity with one and not the other. different contexts.

The problem is that regardless of your personal views on pornography, regardless of whether or not people can get by without pornography, no government should be able to restrict the ways in which people reach sexual catharsis, especially by closely monitoring people's sexual inclinations to such an extremely invasive extent. That's fine, but you gotta admit that the "art" is still completely soulless. For me it's about appreciating the artists skill and love for the craft, connecting with their image and a little bit with them. Even with how good it is now I've seen a great increase in how much attention and money I've made. Lots of people value genuine soul in what they consume. Yeah there are a lot of coomers who don't care but these people exist.

It's become impossible to take their worldview seriously in this day and age.
Corporations are becoming monolithic and doing so much harm to everything.
That one homosexual at mindgeek is out here saying that "porn is actually very educational for children". Not "It's not our problem you parents don't know how to parent" or "Maybe talk to your kids about it yourselves!" pretty much flat out saying: "Yeah deranged trannies coercing kids into sodomizing each other to the point of injury is ackshually heckin progressive and valid!".
I don't support these stupid policies at all and think the congressman pushing for them should all be immolated but the fact of the matter is that nobody is going to listen to the libertarian bullshit when it's very obvious that backhandling private institutions and telling them "no" is unarguably necessary.

it shouldnt even be the governments problem to restrict porn
how about we statt holding parents accountable for raising an entire generation of tablet babies instead of telling them they've done no wrong.

            >how about we statt holding parents accountable for raising an entire generation of tablet babies instead of telling them they've done no wrong.
Again, Mindgeek themselves made it clear they WANT children viewing their content. Obviously the parents are still morons and at fault for letting it happen, but when a company's attitude is behavior that would get an individual put on the fricking SOR you can't just not put fault on them.

The corporations use the government to enforce their will and end competition. Restrict the government, and all of a sudden the corporations behave and things work as they should again. You morons act as if we live in a system closer to the minarchy which was originally intended, but that hasn't been true since the 1800's.

This is completely false but even if it were true in most cases: How the frick does that apply to online pornography? A largely unregulated (until now) industry with no barrier for entry disallowing alternatives to popup. I could start my own site for that shit right fricking now, all I would need is a relatively small budget to pay a few bawds and pajeets for server management.

The people who own pornhub etc. have connections and lobbyists in government, and they pay off media companies to shill for them. They also get support from other companies whose think tanks have decided that porn consumption would benefit them.

            Anonymous

lobbyists are not "in government" they themselves are entirely private (I mean, that's not totally true, AIPAC and shit like that very obviously have intel-com ties but that's not relevant). And again, if that's true, then it means they've become impossible to see removed purely through market competition, they have to start being smacked around by somebody bigger than them.
Even if the current government would be useless for that task, it doesn't change the fact that it's the only way.

            Anonymous

My wording wasn't great, but I meant that they have lobbyists and that they have connections on government. That's just wording though, not a real argument.

            >big government caused problem so obviously the only solution is bigger government
Do you not see the problem here? Get rid of their enforcement arm and it all comes crashing down, no need to crack open a window and turn on a bright light to smack one fly when there's 10000 more in the room.

            Anonymous

homie, you have yet to explain what about this problem was created by big government. Mindgeek is worth billions, they have more money and reach than any other smut peddling corporation. There is no barrier to compete with them, it's just that they already won, put themselves in a position where they can hold onto that win indefinitely, and are taking their bullshit way too far. The only government "regulations" that could potentially be removed to get rid of them are the laws saying you can't behead bugmen and burn down their server farms.

If you are saying you think something that punishes Mindgeek rather than the entire industry is warranted then I agree with you, but that isn't coming through the removal of any redtape in this case.

Hearing "it's a private company bro" one too many times, seeing big monopolies form (sometimes from regulation sometimes just from network effects, or both) and then seeing them slowly merge with the worst parts of both government regulators and public pressure groups to form a censorship and control regime that China would envy. Payment processors, media companies, the list goes on.

Reading is quicker for me. I've embraced anarcho-capitalism in the last year or so. I don't really care what people think of me anymore. I was once convinced libertarianism might not be the answer and looked at stuff like distributism or other 'alternate' ideologies because at the time I believed in the garbage about unregulated capitalism. Eventually I put 2 and 2 together and started being more honest with myself again and now I'm pretty much a full blown ancap. I've heard all the shitty arguments before and they have no effect on me. My dislike towards conservatives has intensified too, but I still dislike progressives a lot.

Personally, I feel like libertarianism will return in some form. I've seen some places on NSFFW reject trad shit and start re-embracing its roots. It's like some people went full circle. Being a fascist homosexual is not an inevitability. The pipeline isn't real if you're well-read.

Reading is quick for me too, it's just that the convenience of being able to put on a video and soak in some of the concepts while programming or something is very nice. Also since he simplifies complex topics nicely, I can just send a video to a friend instead of spending 20 minutes typing out something that isn't as comprehensible. I'm ancap, but my only hangup with it is basically that human nature is not conducive to civilization and so there need to be some moral restrictions in place, usually in the form of some religion in most societies, but we see with the world today that that doesn't hold. But physical removal and private cities where people with similar values can congregate seem to mostly solve that issue, so I'm happy enough with it to be confident calling myself ancap.

            Anonymous

I'm personally agnostic and hate theocracies. I agree with private property/physical removal though. Also discrimination. Not to be edgy, but because it makes sense for me for private business owners to be able to do that. Hoppe is good though I find value from Rothbard, Rockwell, Paul, and Mises of course.

I personally cannot trust tradcons again politically. They've become 90s evangelicals all over again and leftists are obviously doing insane bullshit.

            Anonymous

I didn't necessarily mean enforcing a theocracy or anything, my point is just that it seems that generally, people need a moral check on their behaviors. In many other systems, laws solve this automatically, but private city states do something close enough that I'm comfortable with ancap.
