Poll about girls being into boy stuff (and vice versa)

Question to all males here (or inverted for girls): How would you perceive a girl that's into (your) male hobbies / thing and is better (more knowledgeable, more skilled, ...) than you in it?
This could be anything between your favourite sport, your career (as in: she earns more than you), practical skills or anything you may perceive as a "male topic".

Do you like it? Don't you like it? Why / Why not? Please state your gender when answering.

I believe a random set of two persons will almost always be more different than the average male compared to the average female. So it makes sense that interestsz hobbies and carreers are suited to the person, not their gender.
That said, I am a female with typical female hobbies like sewing and a career in children's development and education. I don't run into a lot of males like me in this regard, but when I do I'm about as happy as when it is a female that shares my interest. The exception is males in teacher positions, we need more of those in primary school positions so children can have a more diverse set of role models growing up. For that reason males in teaching excite me.
I also once learned a male friend how to operate a sewing machine and do simple alterations. He was very happy to pick up a new skill and it's a fond memory for me now.

      >I believe a random set of two persons will almost always be more different than the average male compared to the average female.
That really depends on what you're measuring. There's at least one metastudy that looks at interest in things vs people, and concludes there's a huge (more than 1σ) sex difference that seems to be caused, in large part, by testosterone exposure in the womb.
In simpler terms this means that fewer than 15% of women have the same level of interest in things (meaning machines, technology, computers, etc.) as an average man. And the imbalance gets worse the farther from the average you go - when you get to super-nerd level (3σ), there will be over 40 men for a single woman.

Care to link the study? I don't doubt those numbers, especially for more niche cases or interests. But I'm very curious behind the reason of attributing all of that to hormones in the womb and not at least in part due to parenting or the dominant culture growing up.

          >attributing all of that to hormones in the womb
I said "large part", not "all". It's probably due to a combination of factors, but there are good reasons to think prenatal hormones are a big one.

The metastudy showing a large gender difference in interest is https://sci-hub.se/10.1111/j.1751-9004.2010.00320.x
The study arguing this difference is (at least to a significant part) due to prenatal hormones is https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3166361/
TL;DR there is a rare disorder called CAH that can give females a more male-like hormone balance. The study finds that CAH females are roughly half-way between normal males and normal females on things-people interest. https://slatestarcodex.com/2017/08/07/contra-grant-on-exaggerated-differences/ has a nice human-readable overview of these results.

          >not at least in part due to parenting or the dominant culture growing up.
Cross-cultural studies show that gender differences in personality/interest are LARGER in more gender-equal countries, e.g. the slatestarcodex post above has a reference.

Male, heavily into computers and software.
    >How would you perceive a girl that's into (your) male hobbies / thing and is better (more knowledgeable, more skilled, ...) than you in it?
I'd have loved to meet one, but I've made my peace with the fact they do not exist.

OP here, thanks for all your input on the issue. I'll continue to look for more replies.

The consensus here seems to be: Having a person of the opposite sex engaging in your gender specific behaviour is seen as a quite positive thing, besides some side effects as mentioned .

The underlying issue I implicitly wanted to get some input on was something that

      Male
      >Do you like it? Don't you like it? Why / Why not?
I love when people are passionate about anything, if a girl is passionate about what I like and she's better at it than I am, I view it as a great place to up my game and learn something new.

On the flip side, I'm also very skilled at cooking, sewing, and have an eye for design which are typically on the more feminine side of hobbies; I've noticed lots women feel threatened by that, but the ones who arent are just excited to have someone who's also passionate about the craft.

hinted at: Feeling threatened by someone stepping into "your" hobby that "doesn't belong there".

I was told it's a common thing that "Men want a girlfriend that knows about football, but also not *too* well, so the men can explain it to her and feel superior. If she were to know more, the element of superiority would fall away, and the men would get defensive about it."
I thought that sounds too dumb to actually happen.

To be fair I tried not to care but the difference was very extreme (like 98% to 20% test scores) to the point I couldn't keep up with her or learn from her. If it was a hobby and was more balanced I wouldn't mind so much. I also have a problem with women (anybody) doing literally anything as it makes me feel inferior and that they are gonna leave me.

Theres more women in STEM and trade fields than ever before likewise with military all 3 fields I have been into. I cannot say I have given it much thought or care. I am no expert or elite most people are better than me at everything anyway.

    Just for reference:
    work
    >been infantry soldier
    >been security guard
    >did a lot of manual hard labor
    school
    >IT and trade - no work so far, the women I went to class with all have mangerial or supervisor positions 6-7 figure ones
    hobbies
    >gym - gym is always packed with woman i am stronger but some are faster or healthier i guess
    >music production - again not really something to care about if a woman does better
    interests
    >nihilistic anti natalist and fascist philosoohy
    No woman into that.

      Anonymous

Alright, you typed a lot of things, but didn't answer the question.
For instance the "infantry soldier" position is a classically male role.
Let's say you have a female that is in a comparable position, and is better at whatever you're doing at the moment. Let it be shooting for example.

How does that feel to you? Is that threatening to you? Is that comparable to as "some guy" being better than you? Do you think she's actually kind of cool because of that?

        Anonymous

I had to work with women even as an Infantry Soldier and obey lawful orders from women who outrank me and salute female officers.

I felt no way about it then nor now. I do not find it threatening or cool. Females are known to be excellent snipers in war as well.

I was also work friends with the women I served with but did not flirt with them or ask them out or hang out after hours. Only once when one kissed me when she was drunk.

I have low self esteem so everybody seems better than me in my head but no I see women in neutral terms at work and school environments and I treat them with respect but I am just careful to not develop crushes or be seen as flirting or interested. And I also do not to them unless they talk to me. Again harassment policies is why.

Doing the same job better than me even if it was the manliest job ever would in no way make me hate a woman over it. If she worked hard and is smart and talented she earned it.

I think we outgrow the "aww man a girl beat me" mentality after 8 years old for most part.

When women get preferred treatment and stuff just for being a woman I do not really care as I see it as unearned and thats just the way the world is with DEI hires.

But absolutely there are women who can shoot better, are smarter, etc than me.

I think I would find a southern belle cig mom who shot guns and worked as a diesel mechanic pretty hot tbh

At this point I am ranting but I am indifferent to gender wars stuff tbh. Just if you wanna work like a man and earn like a man you cannot just get there because you looked pretty or have a vag. Likewise with diversity hires. Right person for the job not right skintone for the job.

I would love and marry any girl who is into philosophy but it's impossible to find someone who actually enjoys thinking about epistemes and ontologies, most of them just give lip service to someone they briefly read in college. Very boring.

ya this whole thread is progressing as though interest in something matches being good at it and that premise is just fundamentally mistaken. there's people who were pushed to play piano from 6 years old who are gods and can't stand it. there's also people who love things and have done them for decades and they're absolute dogshit (computers/programming, music, writing are some of the most obvious examples)

the point is that to become really fricking good at something, you need two things:
            1) physical capabilities (brain processing power for mental tasks, dexterity for fine motor control, etc.)
            2) something that forces you to practice it over and over again for many thousands of hours
Except for pathological cases (like your piano example with parents inflicting lifelong trauma on their kid), 2) almost always follows from a deep passion for the thing in question.
Not enough interest -> you don't sink enough time into it -> you don't become good. Natural-born geniuses who are world-class experts without years of practice don't exist outside of anime.

I would be okay with it, I don’t really base my identity on one single thing that I do or own. If she’s better at everything than me that would be concerning and at the same time a little inspiring to step my game up, I’d probably shoot my shot still tho just for the frick of it
