Ukraine could've won in 2022, but the US chickened out

>Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Gen. Valery Zaluzhny pushed for a bold, and by some observations risky, counteroffensive in 2022 that never came to be, according to the new book "Our Enemies Will Vanish" by Yaroslav Trofimov, the Wall Street Journal's chief foreign-affairs correspondent.
>It was a plan to punch through parts of Zaporizhzhia and sever the so-called "land bridge" to isolate Russian forces in Crimea.
>During discussions with Western partners of plans for a 2022 counteroffensive, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Zaluzhny, his top general, both advocated for a push down to the Sea of Azov through the Zaporizhzhia region. At that point, Russia had not constructed the extensive minefields and fortifications that would hinder the 2023 counteroffensive there, lightening the breaching demands.
>"The reason we recommended that they do Kherson was that they didn't have the trained personnel and the kit to go south," a senior Pentagon official involved in these discussions told Trofimov, adding that "we thought that if they bit off more than they can chew in the South, they would get routed."
>Zaluzhny disagreed, his aides said, telling Trofimov that the general argued Ukraine "must attack where we should, not where we can." But as the US controlled the majority of military aid to Ukraine, there was little arguing. Kherson it was.

its true. Not this BS of course, but by signing the April 2022 peace accords everyone would have considered ukraine to have won.

this. its literally that the moronicly believed they actually COULD win, like every Black person moronic /k/edditor on the site, that they are in the situation they are on in now. its why no one really cares about them

now ukraine will no longer exist instead of just being administered by a slav with a different name. its a lesson in hubris

No, Russia wanted it added to the constitution. Confirmed by the leader of Zelensky's own party.

NATO was probably worried that invading Crimea would result in nuking due to it being an existential threat, so they got Ukraine not to do it for long enough that now they can't. NATO didn't really care whether Ukraine won or not.

What does their constitution say about press gangs? They weren't part of NATO in 2021 either when they did joint exercises with NATO troops, what reassurance would an addition to the constitution have added?

In case you didn't know, they had joining NATO in their constitution since 2019.

It would just be a reflection of an acceptance of Russia's demands on Ukrainian elite's part, with an obvious implication of another attack should they change course again. It probably also had some hidden militarization limits.

Honestly I've heard so much shit about Ukrainian leadership and organization from pro-Ukraine people, some of who have actually fought there for Ukraine, that I am inclined to agree.

Some former high-ranking Finnish officer who was there as an advisor said that they are brave but don't fight smart. Wars are won by disciplined armies with good strategy not heroic individuals.

Ukraine was never going to win the land war. NATO is prosecuting the war by proxy for strategic goals. Turning the Ukrainian population and western Europe decidedly against Russia. Crippling Russia's control of the black sea, and straining relations with Turkey is as good as Russia losing Crimea, those ports don't mean frick all if Turkey has carte blanche to blockade or frustrate the Bosporus strait.

The pieces are being put in place for an eventual war with China, Russia is a major ally, so having it's military rape itself moronic in a mud slog in Europe will make them a less potent ally when/if conflict with china escalates.

Sorry Ukes, you were offered up as a sacrifice for the greater good.

/k/'s moronic and thinks they're somehow going to push Russia out and besiege Crimea. If that was a realistic goal, or even the intent of NATO's support then the heavy military aid of newer jets, tanks, ifv's etc would have come much earlier and in much MUCH greater numbers. Modern combat in open terrain has proven to be WW1 tier pyrrhic and there was never enough aid on the ledger to push Russia back on every front. NATO and Ukraine's allies have been giving them just enough to trickle to the front to put up a good defense, but not nearly enough for proper offenses. Anyone who thought like 40-60 tanks and a couple hundred old ass M113's and Bradley's were going to just ignore the same mine fields, pre-zoned artillery, and entrenched ATGM teams that also fricked the initial Russian incursions is a literal moron.

Don't lump me in with those boot licking queers just because I'm not singing your preferred propaganda.

Ukrainian leadership went full Hohol and treated the war as a meat grinder, which NATO leadership specifically advised against.
Ukraine in 2022 didn't have the logistics to mount such an offensive either.
It's all just finger-pointing to scapegoats when the war's about to close.

The Le Nahzee Battalion seem to be the only effective fighting force in this war since they actually know how to ambush and create dilemmas, something that NATO and US leadership recommended.

If US boots were on the ground, the losses Russia take took against Ukraine would look like a joke. US Army would slice through Russia like hot knife through butter they are only able to barely hold they own against Ukrainian soldiers who arent well trained just like Russians arent they dont have a professional army like we do but it is a good thing for them that they have nukes otherwise we would have taken Kremlin already and Putin would be hiding in a hole in Siberia. While all of Russia watches smiling U.S Marines take Lenin out of his tomb and take selfies as they celebrate the complete annihilation of Russian armed forces in the war.
