I was like that too. I ultimately decided to get in therapy and take online classes. I got my first job ever at age 30, but I don't see why it shouldn't be possible to start even later.

I went to three therapists and none of them were able to understand my struggles. I tried going to college again, coincidentally during COVID so I was doing online classes too; I gave up when we had to go to classes physically as I was too scared to get bullied once again (one of my classmates was already figuring it out that I'm a weak autistic pushover and was trying to mock me).

          >I went to three therapists and none of them were able to understand my struggles.
How exactly? Maybe I was just lucky but my therapist seemed to understand my struggles relatively well.

The first one was a greedy b***h who was barely doing her job as a therapist and tried to manipulate me into paying for access to some site's content that she was involved with, the second therapist was talking much more about herself and her other pacients than letting me talk about my issues and the third one was trying to gaslight me into thinking that everything is in my head and that I'm neurotypical.

            I see.

I actually did my therapy at the university, where I was studying before, so the therapist was a postdoc there. She later started her own practice and I followed her there.

            >gaslight me into thinking that everything is in my head and that I'm neurotypical
To be fair: a lot of the things we see tend to be in our heads, to some extent at least. However, the fact that we're paranoid obviously does not mean that we're not also being followed. In the end, it's often a mixture of both, but the only thing we can actively control is our own behaviour. But I can understand that this would be quite the challenge if you feel your therapist doesn't even recognise that despite the fact that you might be interpreting some social cues wrongly, there is still the possibility that you might 'also' have a point.

Fail. Work on the things above.

      >Get better sleep, start working out, eat better
I did this last summer, it barely boosted my self-confidence and I was still losing my spaghetti during social situations.

I know exactly how you feel. I'm also 29 and have thrown away every opportunity I've had in the last decade out of anxiety.

I don't know why I'm like this or what I can do to change it.

Usually because I don't know what to say, I'm afraid of making a fool out of myself.
