It's just a particular class of neurological developmental disorder that results in a certain set of sensory and behavioral anomalies. The point is that it impedes normal functioning enough to be considered a handicap. It's not just "a bit different", it severely impacts the patient's life, which is the primary criterium for a diagnosis if I'm not mistaken. Same goes for ADHD.

A huge percentage of Psychiatrist suck, and psychologists are so inconsistent and “stupid” that 75+% of them should be considered charlatan hacks.
That opening to ‘The Danish Girl’ where the character gets 4 different diagnosis from four separate psychologists is probably still accurate about the profession 100 years later.

Autism can be described as the inability to manage inputs well (skipping over a lot of details). They are more sensitive to senses. For example overdialated pupils for baseline and 2x range for detecting scents in lab tests. This gets compounded by systematizing which is wanting precise why's more than others, a lot. This bombardment of impulses and the strong inability to feel "it is what it is" means that developmentally they make errant brain connections during development. Which is why many of our favourite autists here often have fetishes: a clear, limited scriptlike exercise to soothe messy brain. Interestingly it is 40% comorbid with ADHD, meaning they share a common source or Autists have sexually selected for their complement. If you think of an autist as 90% in task mode, the adhder is 90% in task finding mode. Think about you when you are in flow: no thought about yourself, just the task at hand and the strong habits you build for its execution. That is their life practically all the time. This explanation is all very crude but easiest to parse.

I sometimes question whether I have mild autism. Everything's too loud, bright, am easily discomforted by things like tags on clothes and certain clothing materials in general.

Being overly sensitive to sensory input is a sign of autism, but it can be a sign of something else. Here's a question for you; what is your opinion on small talk?

Yeah okay, you probably have very mild autism. I haven't met a single autistic person that likes small talk. That by itself isn't necessarily indicative of anything, but in combination with your sensory thing, I'd say almost certainly.

            >I haven't met a single autistic person that likes small talk

I guess the only case where I find it permissible is if you're actually trying to get to know someone and trying to break the ice but if you're just small talking for the sake of it, frick off

It can also be intelligence, as you get smarter you take in more inputs. Which is presumably why deviating from the norm is mostly done by those to dumb to temper their body for what is around them socially and those smart enough to suck in data beyond their social circle. This place serves the latter.

          For your own exploration, ask:
          >If I get to stimulated I feel panicked and losing control
          >I am good at the rules of language, but find it hard, unrewarding or unneccesary to deviate from them to transmit my point
          >I never understood how people can say things they don't fully understand, and am surprised they can make things work anyway
          >If I experienced peer pressure, participation was more so a concious decision then an internal persuasion

            >>If I get to stimulated I feel panicked and losing control
Dunno, I tend to feel annoyed and eventually irritated/aggressive if it persists for too long
            >>I am good at the rules of language, but find it hard, unrewarding or unneccesary to deviate from them to transmit my point
I'm not quite sure I understand the question.
            Yes, I guess?
            >>I never understood how people can say things they don't fully understand, and am surprised they can make things work anyway
Yes, though over the long term I've often seen it not work out well for them

The aggresion is a marker as well. If continued, it would likely lead to socially misaligned behaviour. Do you feel the strong urge after a while to leave stimulating environments? If you think of torture, loud music for a long time leads to psychological discoherence leading to errant thought and behaviour. For autists (but not exclusively) this happens at lower thresholds. To expand on the language point, are you okay with using "good-enough" words to describe things? How strongly do lingual errors distract from the message the sender is trying to convey? A stickler for systems would not use vague words and would be distracted. For vague understanding, that seems to line up. For peer pressure, this lines up as well.

This is by no means exhaustive or exclusive. After all, one could simply be introverted and systemitizing. New research points towards genes associated with neanderthals being more prominently influencing for autism, which is interesting. Some extra markers, yes means more likely:

            >Rather than using a model of the other persons mind that informs their decisions I look for distinct markers to gauge their immediate state
            >I have trouble describing my internal state in a meta-way. Rather that a qualitative state I gravitate towards either feeling calm or agitated. I prefer telling stories without narrative authoring such as describing how you felt, what other people must or might be thinking and I am unlikely to remove parts of events to focus in more on my point.
            >My forehead is relatively bigger than peers
            >My head is relatively bigger than peers
            >My ears are relatively low set compared to peers
            >My earshape is more different than my peers
            >My nose is relatively biggerr than my peers
            >I show more markers of testosterone than my cohort
            >Either my mother or father was relatively old during my conception
            >My parents work in a technical field
            >I work in a technical field

Oh, I try to be very precise with my words and often ask other to clarify because to them it's clear what they said but to me it's often too vague and could mean a multiplicity of things.

than using a model of the other persons mind that informs their decisions I look for distinct markers to gauge their immediate state

            A bit I think

At this point the RAADS-R seems appropiate:
            https://www.raads-r.com/test/1

I recommend also looking at schizo(-phrenic, - typal, -affective) disorders, ADHD, ASPD and Depression just to rule things out. For a practical approach, an easy option is that some people experience great relief when acting like an autistic in private and indulging. If it helps, why not?

            >loud world hypothesis
it's only part of the problem
an autist's INNER world is also loud, beyond the realm of perception/representation I mean

Agreed, but hard to convey to people who do not have it as someone who likely does not. Your pruning point earlier illustrates it well, but that experience is hard to capture. Outside loudness releasing internal loudness inhibition is more likely in the normal range of experience. Would you have an example state where normies experience internal loudness?

Not a big fan of these tests they're too static and too vague on some questions

The joke is that for most people they are not too vague. For example:

            >talking too loudly or softly without knowing.

If one happens sometimes, normies say yeah kinda. You probably wondered:

            >What if it is only too loud or only too soft

And that is a good example of the differences. So uhm, congrats, it sure looks like the 'tism.

An interesting sidebar would be that old famous video of the basketball players with the gorilla. Would autists gravitate more towards counting or the gorilla? I expect the former.

            >So uhm, congrats, it sure looks like the 'tism.
I was always aware that I'm somewhat different from others and it may very well be autism but an official diagnosis wouldn't change anything in my life so I never got one since I managed to get through life until now as grating as it sometimes may be.

If it works it works. Using autistic accomodations on yourself may be fulfulling, and with a 130 score: it was harder to get here than you think it is so it is okay to give yourself props.

Yeah, I'm apparently borderline genius range (~140's IQ), but still feel like a fricking idiot. Intelligent autists can adapt to social contact by developing substitutes for our complete lack of natural social intutions. Took me until I was 27 to get diagnosed, and most of my family didn't take it seriously at first. My dad still can't believe it.

Autism comes from cold parenting during the infant years (0-2). The child has low engagement and doesn't build core socialization skills. Females develop faster and have stronger socialization skills, so female autism is far less noticeable.

“Experts” are still trying to sort out what “autism” and “Asperger's” and related conditions actually are.
There are studies that show neurological differences, and which indicate the neurological symptoms of what is traditionally diagnosed as “autism” and similar, but not exactly the same as what used to be diagnosed as “Asperger’s”.
One theory, is that autism and Asperger’s causes ultra sensitive nerves, resulting in sensory issues, such as overly sensitive skin, and hearing, etc., which would explain why those diagnosed with autism have a tendency to walk on the sides of the feet, and to be very picky about clothes and food textures.
There’s also a theory that autism causes “ultra empathy”.
This might explain autistics not wanting to look into other people’s eyes, and seeming “unemotional”, since trying to shut down or blunt this “empathy” would be a coping mechanism by autists.

It's a made up disease. The actual cause is brain inflammation from childhood vaccines that turns your kid into a sped. Sometimes they're a flailing moron. Sometime they refuse to speak until they're 11. Sometimes they are just a social moron. Autism is brain damage but on the lesser end you're probably just socially awkward and you were diagnosed to normalize it.

Does it fix being misunderstood by nearly everyone you meet and unable to properly understand them? Does it fix being a constant burden on everyone around you to the point where your death would be objectively a net positive? No you fricking Black person. The difference being that autistic men have all the exact same problems, and generally speaking are also doomed to suffer through them alone, unloved. Women aren't socially expected to hold jobs, whereas men who don't hold jobs are considered subhuman. You don't have to suffer through your hell alone. People may not fully understand you, but your pain is considered valid at least, whereas men are told to suck it up and be a man, nobody even pretends to give a shit, even for a few moments.

Which is exactly the point that that fake autist didn't get. All the fails in making connections is exactly how I know [...] isn't an autist. Too much me, me woe is me. An actual autist would make a way less personal and impassioned post, it would be far more analytical.

in the popularization of autism we have to expect the meanings of terms to grow more baggy and inclusive.. from my own experience i would describe the "spectrum" of autism to run from disability at one end to disinterest at the other. all along the spectrum you have specimens exhibiting different abnormalities in socializing. some can't, and are truly prisoners within themselves, and some just don't, they're not incentivized by social cues and feedback so they just don't bother. at the top end of this functionality scale you have people that don't ever let you know they're different

      functionality scale is socially determined

So it all started with nuts eh?

Autism is overdiagnosed. It should have been relegated to Kanner's autism where you're nonverbal or not toilet trained, what would previously been diagnosed as "moron" or "mental moronation". The political correctness with "high functioning" and "Asperger's" ruined autism.

Expect the DSM-6 to create even more new diagnoses. Psychiatrists keep diagnosing me with different things depending on how their feeling that day. I've been given everything from Binge Eating, Bipolar, Harm OCD, Asperger's, ADHD, Dysgraphia, instead of treating me like a fricking human being with real feelings.
