Hands down best band in history.
Yeah, they started poppy and mainstream but they were original as fricked and changed music forever.

Name another band that has well over 100 good songs. You can't.

I'm sharing this post to convert you zoomers

Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums. Christy, take off your robe. Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. Sabrina, remove your dress. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Sabrina, why don't you, uh, dance a little. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock. Christy, get down on your knees so Sabrina can see your butthole. Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. Sabrina, don't just stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

No. Music in the 80's sucked balls. Every other butthole was squirting out electric farts on their synthesizers. Only a tiny bit of it managed to create a romantic feeling toward the 80's.

That few still did more than other decades after it. That's why 40 years later the 80s still is the most nostalgic decade with young generations that still whatch 80s based series, 80s movie sequels and listen to 80s inspired movies

Pop music used to be carefree fun and now it's politicized. You end up getting the same empty cultural calories but you're expected to lap it up like you're standing up for BLM or helping Ukraine. Maybe that's why they try to make the slop seem more artsy/deep?

Because they are constantly searching for nostalgia. Think about it their whole life has been a constant downward spiral of our society. How would you feel if everything you loved when you were a kid you are now priced out of as an adult? A lot of them have realized they will never own a house or a nice car, they will never have a loving wife who wasn’t a prostitute, they will never have beautiful kids to spread their lineage.
